Click here to listen to some Punk music while you browse!
This website was created as a project for an American Cultures/Chicano Studies class entitled Digital Borderlands. The purpose of this site is to inform people about Chicano Punk. Punk music is usually associated with white males, and sometimes it is associated with the negative connotations of anarchy and even white supremacy. However, punk music is about rebellion and social critique. White males are not the only ones who have opinions about society, and this site was created in order to raise awareness of the Chicano minority within the white male dominated punk scene. Some of these Chicano Punk bands express their opinions about politics and society in their songs. Others who are not as political still exercise their rebellion by imposing themselves in a white male dominated space.
The site includes sections on what is Punk and what is a Chicano, in case someone is uncertain about the meaning of these terms. Both sections include a brief history. The page titled Documentary includes videos and links to more videos about the Chicano Punk documentary titled Beyond the Screams. On the page Chicano Punk bands, you will find a list of Chicano Punk bands as well as any links I have found related to the bands. This list includes Chicano Punk bands that I was able to find. I do not claim it is a complete list and I am sure there are many others out there. The links page contains links to sites related to Punk that I find interesting, as well as links to sites about other minority Punk bands, such as African Americans and Asian Americans. I hope you enjoy the site!
